United Way seeks grant RFPs

PROVIDENCE – As United Way of Rhode Island prepares to release three requests for proposals for its 2016-19 grant cycle, it has extended to Sept. 25 the deadline inviting members of the community to join its Volunteer Grant Review Committee.
Members of the volunteer grant review committee will review grant applications and discuss programs’ potential with fellow committee members to make funding recommendations to the United Way of Rhode Island’s community investment committee and board of directors.
Through the upcoming three-year, competitive grant cycle, the organization will award a total of $12 million to Rhode Island-based nonprofits and consortiums that deliver basic supports and lifelong learning opportunities that provide stability and security to Rhode Islanders and their families.
Volunteers will be asked to commit to a minimum of two grant reviews and be able to objectively review each grant application.
The nonprofit seeks volunteers from various educational, work, volunteer and life experiences that represent the diversity of Rhode Island. It also seeks volunteers from the following communities, in order to achieve statewide representation: Burrillville, Central Falls, Charlestown, Exeter, Foster, Glocester, Johnston, Lincoln, Narragansett, Richmond, Smithfield, West Greenwich, West Warwick and Westerly.
