University Medicine moving to new building in East Providence

EAST PROVIDENCE – University Medicine, a nonprofit primary care, specialty outpatient and subspecialty group practice, recently announced it will occupy three of the four floors of a newly constructed building at 375 Wampanoag Trail.
Construction began in 2015. The building and site are owned by Marshall Properties Inc. of Pawtucket.
The architect was Vision 3 Architects of Providence. The general contractor was A/Z Corp. of North Stonington, Conn.
The $6.5 million facility is one of the few in the region designed to support the patient-centered medical home model of care, which emphasizes collaboration and coordination between primary care physicians and the various specialty doctors and providers.
“The design model is intentional and is new from the ground up, not a rehab of an existing facility,” said Dr. Louis B. Rice, president and physician-in-chief of University Medicine, in a news release.
University Medicine will continue to operate primary care facilities in Providence, East Greenwich, Warwick and Aquidneck Island, as well as specialty satellite offices.
The specialty practices in the new facility include general medicine, gastroenterology, geriatrics and palliative medicine, hypertension and kidney diseases, and critical care and sleep medicine.
