University Medicine recognized for care

WASHINGTON – All eight of University Medicine’s primary care practices have been designated as patient-centered medical homes by the National Committee for Quality Assurance, the group announced on Nov. 1.

The practices include Barrington Primary Care in East Providence, General Internal Medicine in Providence, Geriatrics Practice in Pawtucket, Governor Street Primary Care in Providence, North Main Street Primary Care in Providence, Warwick Family Practice in Warwick and Women’s Health Associates in Providence.

The designation is based on the practice’s adoption of evidence-based medicine and patient-centered practices that focus on highly coordinated care and long-term relationships.

“The patient-centered medical home promises to improve health and health care,” said NCQA President Margaret E. O’Kane. “The active, ongoing relationship between a patient and a clinician in medical homes fosters an all-too-rare goal in care: staying healthy and preventing illness in the first place.” This recognition, she continued, “shows that University Medicine has tools, systems and resources to provide their patients with the right care at the right time.”
