UCAP is an alternative public middle school founded in 1989. It enrolls students from Central Falls, Cranston and Providence who have been held back at least one year. At UCAP, these students are given the opportunity to accelerate their studies in order to enter high school at an appropriate age. A part of UCAP’s strategy is its Beyond School programs, which includes after-school and weekend activities such as hiking, career mentoring and art classes.

The Verizon Foundation was started in 2000 to provide technical, financial and human resources to programs in two primary areas: education and literacy, and safety and health. •
