Verizon rolls out 4G in R.I.

PROVIDENCE – Verizon Wireless rolled out its 4G Long Term Evolution network in Rhode Island and Massachusetts Thursday.

Local customers should experience data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second to download and 2 to 5 Mbps to upload. It is about 10 times faster than the 3G network, a spokeswoman said.

The network currently supports 16 devices, including the HTC Rezound and the Droid Razr by Motorola.

Verizon first launched its 4G LTE network in December 2010.
