Victorian fashion highlighted at Rosecliff

NEWPORT – Victorian fashion is the subject of this year’s costume exhibition at Newport’s Rosecliff, an annual event sponsored by the Preservation Society of Newport.

Now through Nov. 16 visitors to Rosecliff will be granted access with admission to The Victorian Wardrobe Revealed: 1840-1900 which the society said includes several never-before displayed items of historic clothing.

The exhibition, curated by Jessica Urick and Rebecca Kelly, also traces developments in clothing manufacturing and purchasing, as well as the changes in women’s dress silhouettes through the 19th century.

A capstone piece on display, the society said, is a black-and-white striped gown by the couture house of Charles Frederick Worth that required over 300 hours of conversation work.

Rosecliff is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
