PROVIDENCE – Major League Gaming, a competitive video game league, will hold its national championships in Providence this weekend.
More than 1,200 players will compete in the three-day, double-elimination tournament; there are $600,000 in prizes and stipends.
It is the end to MLG’s eighth and “most successful” Pro Circuit season, with more than $1 million awarded through the year, the league said.
Gamers will play: “StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty” on PC, “Call of Duty: Black Ops” on the PlayStation3 system, “Halo: Reach” on Xbox 360, and “League of Legends.”
The event will take place at the R.I. Convention Center; there will be three main stage with video screen and live commentating. It will also be streamed online at majorleaguegaming.com.
“The 2011 Pro Circuit has been the most action-packed, exciting season in both MLG and e-sports history and our National Championships will continue to deliver some of the most entertaining match-ups of all time,” said Sundance DiGiovanni, CEO of Major League Gaming. “This is an event fans won’t want to miss and we anticipate reaching unprecedented online viewership numbers.”
