PROVIDENCE - WJAR-TV NBC 10 announced Friday it resolved the fee dispute with Verizon Fios, just one day before the deadline.

Fios subscribers would have been cut off from WJAR, but could have received the channel by buying a basic over-the-air digital antenna.

WJAR launched a campaign – online and with a crawl during broadcasts - encouraging Fios subscribers to petition their cable company to reach a “fair, market-based deal” with the channel.

Their efforts were rewarded with a three-year retransmission consent deal to begin Jan. 1. WJAR did not disclose the terms of the agreement; General Manager Vic Vetters was not available for comment.

In a news release, Vetters said: “We’d like to thank thousands of our viewers who showed their support for WJAR over the past several days. It is truly appreciated.”
