WARWICK – The Community College of Rhode Island ranked 579th out of 821 community colleges in WalletHub’s latest survey about the best and worst community college systems.
CCRI came in at 697th in the cost and financing subcategory, but stood at 542nd and 317th in the respective subcategories of education outcomes and career outcomes.
The Helene Fuld College of Nursing in New York topped the list for being the best community college, while Hudson County Community College in New Jersey was rated worst on the list.
No New England community colleges made the top 20.
The financial services website said Monday that it looked at 12 key metrics to compare the 821 community colleges, ranging from the cost of in-state tuition and fees to student-faculty ratio and graduation rate.
WalletHub said it used the results of its best and worst community colleges analysis to rank states by the best and worst community college systems. That list was topped by South Dakota. Connecticut and New Hanmpshire placed ninth and 10th, respectively. Rhode Island did not make the list because only states with at least two community colleges were evaluated, and the Ocean State only has one – CCRI. Massachusetts was 33rd on the list, and Pennsylvania was last.
To rank the states, WalletHub calculated a weighted average of the scores obtained by community colleges in each state and the number of students enrolled in each school.
