PROVIDENCE – The Providence-Warwick metropolitan area is the 12th worst in the country to work for a small business, according to WalletHub, which ranked the 100 most populated U.S. metropolitan areas on their small business environment.
The personal finance website looked at factors including net small business job growth, earnings for small business employees, number of small businesses and industry variety.
The Providence-Warwick area ranked even lower in subcategories: It was eighth worst in lowest earnings for small business employees and lowest net small business job growth. And, it was 10th worst for economic environment and 16th worst for small business environment.
The Providence area received its best rank – 21st – in the subcategory of number of businesses per 1,000 inhabitants. It also ranked near the middle – 56th – for industry variety.
The Charlotte-Concord-Gastonia, N.C.-S.C. metro area is the best metro area in the country to work for a small business, according to WalletHub. The worst? Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, Ohio-Pa.
