Warwick challenges T.F. Green extension

Posted 11/22/11

WARWICK – The city’s legal challenge to Federal Aviation Administration approval of plans to extend the T.F. Green Airport runway has been filed in the U.S Court of Appeals for District of Columbia Circuit in Washington, D.C., the attorney representing the city confirmed Tuesday.

Steven Taber of the Irvine, Calif., Taber Law Group said the appeal had been received by the federal court in Providence Tuesday. He said he could not discuss any details of the appeal until it is docketed in the court system.

The appeal was launched by the Warwick City Council, which voted last week to hire legal representation to fight the plan, which will require the demolition of homes near the runway.

In addition to lengthening the runway by 1,530 feet, the proposed changes include construction of new cargo and U.S. Postal Service facilities, a new fuel farm, an expansion of the passenger terminal, the demolition of a hanger, and the shifting of the crosswind runway 100 feet to the north.
