Washington Trust announces promotions

WESTERLY – The Washington Trust Co. recently announced a number of promotions for employees of the financial institution.
The Westerly-based bank announced several promotions, including:

  • Melanie A. Connelly, assistant vice president for retail banking. Connelly joined the bank in 1999, progressed to the level of assistant branch manager at the Block Island branch and then branch operations officer in 2008. In her role, she takes the lead on critical projects within the Retail Banking group.
  • Joseph M. DeMarco, accounting officer. DeMarco joined the bank in 2010 as a loan servicing specialist. In December 2011, he joined the financial administration team as a staff accountant. In his role, he is responsible for performing various accounting control functions, reporting and monitoring. DeMarco holds his B.S. in Business Administration from Eastern Connecticut State University.
  • Brett C. Lonergan, appointed managed asset and risk management officer for The Washington Trust Co. Lonergan joined the bank in February 2013 as an accounting intern. In August 2013, he joined the Risk Management team as a risk management/special assets trainee. In 2014, he was promoted to managed asset and risk management analyst. In his new role, he assists in environmental due diligence management. Lonergan graduated from The University of Rhode Island with a B.S. in finance and is currently pursuing his chartered financial analyst certification.
  • Anthony J. Nunes has been appointed social media and public relations officer. Nunes joined the bank in February 2014 as social media marketing coordinator. In his role within Washington Trust’s Marketing Department, he manages the corporate brand by expanding the bank’s presence on social and traditional media. Nunes sits on the board for the Westerly Regional Arts Partnership as well as the United Theatre Creative Council. He graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a B.A. in Media Communications.
  • Brian A. Pereira of Cranston technology services officer for The Washington Trust Co. Pereira joined the bank in September 2013 as a technology services specialist. He brings more than 10 years of experience in the technology field as well as strong customer service skills. In his new position he will manage the staff and workflow of the Help Desk on a daily basis while consistently maintaining and upgrading the bank’s numerous software applications. Pereira has his certification in CompTIA A+.
  • Joanne C. Sulima has been appointed special assets officer for The Washington Trust Co. Sulima joined the bank in 1986 as a Loan Operations Clerk. In 2007, her position was transferred to the Commercial Lending Division where she worked as a credit associate, and was later promoted to manager of special assets. As special assets officer, she handles operations, processing and lending for the Special Assets department. Sulima is a volunteer puppy raiser for Guiding Eyes for the Blind. She holds a B.A. in Biology from the University of Rhode Island.
