The Washington Trust Co. recently announced the results of its March peanut butter drive. The company collected more than 6 tons of peanut butter, which were distributed to food banks across the state.

Peanut butter is one of the most requested items from food banks because it is a good source of protein and a common favorite among children and adults. Due to increased prices, however, food banks often find themselves with a shortage of the product.

“The peanut butter drive is a real blessing for us,” said Diana Burdett, executive director of the Providence In-Town Churches Association. “Thanks to this significant amount collected by Washington Trust, we had enough to distribute to all of our families.”

Throughout the drive’s 12-year history, Washington Trust has collected at least 100 tons of peanut butter, enough to make almost 4 million peanut butter sandwiches.

“Washington Trust is committed to fighting hunger and helping Rhode Island families in need,” said Joseph J. MarcAurele, Washington Trust’s chairman, president and CEO. •
