The Washington Trust Co. is hoping a recent donation of $15,000 will help the residents of Westerly restore Misquamicut Beach after the damages it sustained from Hurricane Sandy.
During the November storm, the beach endured significant impact. As a result, much of it will need to be rebuilt or restored.
“This is our hometown and we are committed to helping our community,” said Joseph J. MarcAurele, chairman, president and CEO of Washington Trust. “We hope this donation will help our neighbors restore the Misquamicut Beach area for all to enjoy.”
The bank joins other regional businesses and organizations in donating to the Greater Westerly Chamber Foundation’s “Bring Back the Beach” Misquamicut Beach Recovery Fund.
“We are truly grateful to Washington Trust for taking a leadership role with the Misquamicut Beach Recovery Fund,” said Lisa Konicki, executive director of the Greater Westerly-Pawcatuck Chamber of Commerce. “Washington Trust’s donation is our largest donation to date, once again exemplifying the bank’s commitment to the local community.” •
