Washington Trust issues scam alert

WESTERLY – The Washington Trust Co. has been alerted by authorities regarding a text message scam that was sent to individuals in the Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut area. The message received indicates: “Your MasterCard has been closed” and advises people to call a number to reactivate their card.

Washington Trust said it does not employ text messages as a means of notification; we provide a letter and/or telephone call to notify account holders of any issues related to accounts or services. The bank said that any customer that have received a similar text message and have followed the instructions provided, contact its Customer Service Center immediately at 800-475-2265.
