Washington Trust launches annual PB drive

WESTERLY – Washington Trust has announced its 12th annual peanut butter drive through the month of March, with donations going directly to local Rhode Island food pantries. Why peanut butter? It’s high in protein, loved by children and adults, and expensive for families in need. One jar of donated peanut butter can make about 16 sandwiches. Since beginning its campaign in 2001, Washington Trust has collected 94 tons of peanut butter. By joining the peanut butter drive, you can make a difference.
The bank will also host a series of “I Luv RI” events to collect donations. Jars of new, unopened peanut butter can be dropped off at any of Washington Trust’s 18 branch locations or at the following events:

  • Sports Fun Day at the Warwick Mall on Saturday, March 10, from oon-2 p.m. Drop off a jar of peanut butter and meet Paws from the Pawtucket Red Sox, Samboni from the Providence Bruins, Mike Adams, host of “The Planet Mikey Show” on WEEI Sports Radio. Donations will benefit the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
  • Skating Day at the Washington Trust Community Skating Rink in Westerly on Saturday, March 17, from Noon-2 p.m. Donate a jar of peanut butter and skate for free. Donations will benefit the Jonnycake Center of Westerly.
  • Peanut Butter Night at the PBruins on Friday, March 23, at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. Drop off a jar of peanut butter and enter to win a PBruins raffle basket and prize pack. Donations will benefit the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
You can also start a collection at your business, school or community group. Email marketing@washtrust.com or fill out a participation form to get started. Or, you can go to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank’s virtual peanut butter drive to donate what you would have spent on your lunch.
“Over the past 10 years we’ve fed millions of Rhode Islanders but the need still exists,” said Joseph J. MarcAurele, chairman, president and CEO of Washington Trust.
“Hungry children across our state are counting on the success of this important peanut butter drive,” said Andrew Schiff, CEO of the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. “We deeply appreciate the efforts by Washington Trust and the donors throughout Rhode Island for helping us fight hunger in our state.”
