DAVID M. WAX, managing director of the Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre, will retire from the position after a search for his replacement is complete, said Leon Boghossian III, Gamm’s current board president, on Friday.
PAWTUCKET – David M. Wax, managing director of the nonprofit Sandra Feinstein-Gamm Theatre, is retiring after two years in the position.
Wax had been retired and serving as president of Gamm’s board of directors in June 2012 when he agreed to temporarily assume the role of managing director after the resignation of Yvonne Seggerman, the executive director at the time. The post was later made permanent, said Leon Boghossian III, Gamm’s current board president.
Wax, a seasoned professional who has led such art institutions as the Houston Symphony and Rhode Island Philharmonic, guided the theater company through a time of transition and growth, Boghossian said.
“He has been the cornerstone of the Gamm’s administrative successes of the last two years, and without him we would have been lost,” said Boghossian. “I am personally indebted to David for everything he has done for us and for me. He will be greatly missed.”
Artistic Director Tony Estrella said Wax’s behind-the-scenes efforts have “given us the ability to make leaps and bounds where it counts the most, in front of the audience. The entire organization, from the board and the staff to the artists and technicians, will dearly miss his day-to-day presence. David's leadership leaves us stronger and poised for continued success.”
Wax will not officially depart until the search for his replacement, now underway, is complete, Boghossian said.
Wax said that now that the latest fiscal year is complete, “the time is right” to return to retirement.
“It has been a great joy for me to work with the dedicated Gamm board and the extremely committed staff,” he said. “It has been a particular pleasure to work with Tony Estrella, who combines acting, directing, writing and especially strong artistic leadership and, most of all, is an extraordinary human being.”
