West Side market opens

PROVIDENCE – The Fertile Underground cooperative has opened its new grocery store at 1577 Westminster Street in the city’s West Side.

The store, which opened with an indoor farmers market and café on Sunday, Nov. 27, is located in the ground floor of a mixed-use building built by the West Broadway Neighborhood Association.

With a mission to provide fresh and local food to a neighborhood without a lot of grocery options, the Fertile Underground store is opening on Thursdays and Sundays until scaling up to full operations by the beginning of next year.

The Fertile Underground operates as a worker cooperative, but the store is open to all members of the public.
