WEST WARWICK – The West Valley Inn is back on the market, after Providence and Block Island restaurateur Frank DiBiase Jr. backed out of buying the property.
“It was a bit of a surprise,” Nancy Thomas, of Tapestry Communications, said Tuesday.
Thomas, who is handling public relations for the restaurant’s owners, the Correia family, said DiBiase changed his mind last week, a few days after touring the property. He had signed a letter of intent to purchase, but did not sign a purchase and sale agreement, Thomas said.
DiBiase operates the Spring House on Block Island, Providence Oyster Bar, Federal Taphouse & Kitchen on Federal Hill in Providence and The Fire Brick Oven Pizza & Bar in North Providence. He could not be reached for comment.
Thomas said the Blossom Street property is again listed at $1.5 million with Butler Realty Group; there is no deadline for prospective buyers to submit offers, she said.
The property, which sits on 12 acres, features two buildings, one at 20,000 square feet and the other at 30,000 square feet. There are four kitchen areas.
She said there have been inquiries about leasing parts of the building with some variation of the four businesses. West Valley Inn, which closed last month after being in operation since 1978, featured take-out, catering, banquets and events, and a family-style restaurant.
Thomas said that the buildings can be adapted for other uses beyond food service, such as senior or child daycare, church, school and warehouse, and they also could be converted to housing.
