Westerly Hospital, union set new contract

The Westerly Hospital and the United Nurses and Allied Professional Local 5075 announced an agreement on a new three-year contract. Union membership approved the terms in a vote Wednesday.

The new contract, which calls for no wage increases between now and November (when the first year of the retroactive agreement ends), will bring raises of 2 percent in November, 1 percent in April 2005, 1.5 percent in November 2005 and 1.5 percent in April 2006.

Arbitration hearings set to begin today have been cancelled. The hospital posted a substantial loss from operations in 2003 and has been working its way through a combination of cost reductions and operational improvements. The Local 5075 represents positions in nursing and other professional and technical areas.
