Westport among towns getting Irene road funds

Posted 1/30/12

BOSTON – Westport is among the Massachusetts communities that will receive emergency highway repairs for damage created in August by Tropical Storm Irene.

More than $4.65 million in Federal Highway Administration grant awards will go toward communities in the state to restore the flow of traffic as well as efforts to minimize damage and the repairs necessary to restore the roadway to its pre-disaster condition.

Westport is eligible for up to $350,000 for a temporary bypass, as well as additional work. Thirteen other communities in Berkshire and Franklin counties will also receive funding for repair work. •
