Newport Art Museum raised more than $78,000 at its recent Wet Paint celebration, an annual fundraiser benefitting the museum’s programs and services.
A record 305 artists participated in the event and 448 works of art were sold in live and silent auctions.
“The spirit of Wet Paint incorporates tremendous energy that gets practicing artists and those who aspire to be artists to spend a day creating art and sharing it with others through the auction. Parents, grandparents and grandchildren all come into the museum with their work still wet, having spent the day together making art. What can be more wonderful than that? I’ve already had people say they’ve been so inspired by the energy that they’re going to start painting again to get ready for next year’s Wet Paint,” said Elizabeth “Lisa” Goddard, executive director.
The two-day event featured hundreds of artworks donated by artists of all kinds. The works were sold in a silent auction over the weekend, with the top 50 works selected for the live auction Sunday afternoon.
Other entertainment included music performances by Larry Brown’s Swinglane Orchestra and acoustic musicians Sky Sabin and Pat Cottrell. •
