Providence and the Providence Public Library announced a deal yesterday that should end the impasse over the funding and operational control of the library system, which contains the main library on Empire Street and nine neighborhood branches.
In the deal, the city will take control of all neighborhood branches, leaving the PPL to fund and operate the more than century-old central library. It is likely that the city will transfer operation of the branches to a recently formed nonprofit.
What do you think should have been done to get the library operating on an even keel?
