What is your opinion of Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee’s decision to not seek a second term?

Posted 9/8/13

With a year before the Rhode Island gubernatorial primary election, the picture has gotten a little clearer. Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee, the recently converted Democrat, has decided to not seek a second term, saying that he wanted to concentrate on being governor, not on running for re-election, leaving Providence Mayor Angel Taveras and General Treasurer Gina M. Raimondo as the presumptive front-runners on the Democratic side of the aisle.

Chafee has spent his term dogged by many issues that were not his making – the bad economy and the 38 Studios LLC fiasco – as well as for other decisions he has made that generated heated public debate, among them the decision to toll traffic on the Sakonnet River bridge and to enter into discussions to modify the landmark pension reform legislation that he helped get passed by the General Assembly.

Will the state be better off by his not running for a second term, or not?
