A recent in-store promotion allowed three area Whole Foods Market stores to give more than $12,000 to the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation.

During “5% Day,” two Whole Foods stores located in Providence and one in Cranston each gave 5 percent of the day’s net sales to the foundation.

The donation, which totaled $12,104.34, was accepted at the Waterman Street location in Providence by Maria Gemma, executive director, and Gary Calvino, director of development.

“The foundation is absolutely delighted to have partners like Whole Foods Market that understand our mission,” Gemma said. “Too many national chains will only support national organizations, especially during promotions related to National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”

Bonnie Combs, marketing team leader at Whole Foods’ University Heights location, agreed.

“We proudly support nonprofits in our community,” she said. “The results of this three-store 5% Day prove that our customers generously shopped to support the mission of the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation.” •
