NORTH KINGSTOWN – Ten land-based windmill turbines and 30 of their accompanying blades arrived at the Port of Davisville at Quonset Business Park on Wednesday.
Manufactured by Vensys Energy, the turbines were shipped from Bremen, Germany. Each tower consists of three large cylinders weighing between 40-60 tons each.
The turbines will be erected in the towns of Coventry and Portsmouth later this month.
EcoRI News recently reported that the Narragansett Bay Commission agreed to begin negotiations to buy three Vensys wind turbines that are under construction in Coventry.
The project’s developer, Wind Energy Development LLC of North Kingstown, has plans to build 30 or more of the 400-foot turbines in the state during the next three years, the website stated.
A representative from Wind Energy Development could not be immediately reached for comment regarding the latest shipment.
