At more than 80 years old, Dimeo Construction Co.’s presence can be felt throughout New England, including in some of Rhode Island’s most high-profile projects.
The company, now in its third generation of family leadership, has a history that includes serving as the general contractor for the then-Providence Civic Center (now the Dunkin’ Donuts Center) in 1971. Projects of that stature have continued up to the present day, with the company completing work on the Ocean House in Westerly’s prestigious Watch Hill neighborhood, a $32.3 million heavy industrial building at the General Dynamics Electric Boat Quonset Point facility and several buildings at Yale University, including the it’s new School of Management.
That work has paid off for the company’s sales figures, which jumped 41 percent between 2011 and 2013, when the Dimeo reported $424 million in revenue.
Employing 225 professionals, the company says it prides itself on “strong team collaboration and working from a ‘builder mindset’ ” to produce results for its clients.
“[We] attribute much of this success to sharply focusing on continuously building alignment – finding ways to deliver better value by listening to and understanding [our] clients’ needs, while investing in technology and people to meet those needs,” the company said in a statement.
The company’s growth could continue based on other projects it has either planned or underway. In September, Johnson & Wales University announced that Dimeo will serve as construction manager of the school’s new $40 million academic building on former Interstate 195 land in Providence’s Jewelry District.
Additionally, the company is also overseeing the $60 million renovation of FM Global’s former headquarters, which is set to become a multi-tenant office building dubbed Northwoods.
