Women & Infants, Miriam Hospital receive Women’s Choice Awards as best hospitals for cancer care

PROVIDENCE – Women & Infants Hospital and The Miriam Hospital have received Women’s Choice Awards for their programs in women’s oncology, making them among the United States’ best hospitals for cancer care.
This is the third time that Women & Infants, a Care New England hospital, has been recognized with a Women’s Choice Award for excellence this year. It also was recognized as a best hospital for obstetrics and best hospital for breast care.
“Each of these announcements highlights the outstanding care we provide women and their families every single day. Our program in women’s oncology is one of the nation’s leading services for the diagnosis, treatment and research of women’s cancers. We are very proud that this excellence is being recognized,” Mark R. Marcantano, president and chief operating officer at Women & Infants Hospital, said in a statement.

Women & Infants and Miriam were among 331 hospitals nationwide that were named as best hospitals for cancer care.
A spokesperson from Miriam could not be immediately reached for comment.

All of the hospitals on the list met criteria including: accreditation by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, participation in clinical trials and research, above average patient recommendation ratings from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and satisfactory clinical performance with regard to patient safety measures. Availability of chemotherapy, radiation and hospice services on site also was considered.

“Women have choices when it comes to cancer care, but now they can make informed choices based on rigorous evidence based criteria,” Delia Passi, Women’s Choice Award founder, said in a statement. “As a cancer survivor who faced a challenging journey to recovery, I wish I had the WCA as a resource to spare me unnecessary fret and error.”
