Women & Infants, Miriam, recognized with Women’s Choice Awards for cancer care

PROVIDENCE – Women & Infants Hospital and The Miriam Hospital each have been recognized with 2016 Women’s Choice Awards for being among America’s best hospitals for cancer care.
This is the second consecutive year the hospitals were recognized by the Women’s Choice Awards, which identifies the best cancer hospitals that have been accredited by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer, and which also received high recommendation ratings for female patient satisfaction from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

In addition, hospitals were recognized for having chemotherapy, radiation and hospice services and/or major research programs. A total of 366 hospitals nationwide were recognized.

“We are so proud of this honor and to be recognized again among some of the best hospitals in our country for cancer care,” Mark R. Marcantano, president and chief operating officer at Women & Infants Hospital, said in a statement. “Our program in women’s oncology is one of the nation’s leading services for the diagnosis, treatment and research of women’s cancers. We are very proud that this excellence is being recognized.”
A spokeswoman for Miriam Hospital could not be reached for comment.
Said Delia Passi, founder and CEO of the Women’s Choice Award, “Women have many choices when it comes to cancer care, but now they can make informed choices based on rigorous evidence based criteria. As a cancer survivor who faced a challenging journey to recovery, I wish I had the Women’s Choice Award as a resource to spare me unnecessary fret and error.”

This is Women & Infants’ second recognition in recent months. Last month, the Care New England hospital also was named one of America’s Best Hospitals for Obstetrics by the Women’s Choice Award, which also previously named it as one of the nation’s best breast centers.
Women & Infants is a major teaching affiliate of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University for obstetrics, gynecology and newborn pediatrics, as well as a number of specialized programs in women’s medicine.
