Women & Infants launches heart health program

PROVIDENCE – Women & Infants Hospital recently announced it was establishing a women’s cardiovascular program as part of Care New England Cardiovascular Care.

The new program is titled Women’s Heart Health of Women & Infants and is located at 90 Plain Street.

With the symptoms of heart disease in women often dramatically different from those seen in men, and with treatments frequently differing as well, the new program brings to bear gender-specific medicine and expertise of two female cardiologists.

The new Women & Infants service is an expansion of the Care New England program that already has existing sites at Kent Hospital and Memorial Hospital.

“More than eight million women die from heart disease worldwide annually, while it continues to be the number one killer of women,” said Dr. Chester Hedgepeth, executive chief of cardiology and consultative medicine for Care New England. “Most women are unaware that symptoms of heart disease can be different compared to men. We are proud to have developed a women’s heart health program that is comprehensive and builds on our current advanced cardiac service offerings.”
