Women receive leadership awards from McDonald House

Five local women were recently honored as recipients of the Ronald McDonald House of Providence Women’s Leadership Award.

The awards, presented on Sept. 27, acknowledge positive contributions and exceptional demonstrations of leadership in the Rhode Island community in five areas.

Winners included Sixcia Devine, founder of SIXCIA Business Development and Caritas Smile, in the community service area; Susan Connery, Director of the Feinstein Community Service Center at Johnson & Wales University’s Providence Campus, in the education area; Karen Davis, vice president of community relations at Hasbro Inc., in the business area; Carolyn Thornton, the first full-time, female sportswriter hired by the Providence Journal, in the athletics area; and Dr. Betty Vohr, director of the Women and Infants Hospital’s Neonatal Follow-up Clinic and medical director of the Rhode Island Hearing Assessment Program, in the health care area.

“Each recipient deserves our highest praise for the achievements they bring to Rhode Island,” said Michael Fantom, CEO of the Ronald McDonald House of Providence. “These awards demonstrate our gratitude for all of their accomplishments.”
