Women’s Fund celebrates success

During its annual meeting, held last month at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, The Women’s Fund celebrated the start of another year by looking ahead and by reflecting on the items it accomplished in 2012.
Last year, the group was able to raise more than $56,000 through its annual 5K, which saw more than 1,200 participants. The group also found success in pursuing grant support, receiving two grants to benefit its programs.
Planning for the future, executive director of nine years, Kate Fentress, announced she would retire in the fall, as a handful of new members were welcomed onto the Leadership Council.
Following the meeting, attendees took part in a panel discussion that featured recipients of Women’s Funds grants, including the YWCA, The Ocean Explorium, Bristol Community College WISE Program and the Buzzards Bay Coalition. After, there was an opportunity for networking.
The Women’s Fund, a special fund of the Community Foundation, raises money to advance the educational attainment and economic security of women and girls in southeastern Massachusetts.
