In partnership with Fidelity Investments and Serve Rhode Island, Roger Williams Middle School held a “School Transformation Day” in an effort to educate its students on natural disaster response following the impact Hurricane Sandy and a blizzard had on thousands of Rhode Island homes.

Fidelity Investment employee volunteers and Serve Rhode Island volunteers held workshops for more than 750 students at the middle school. Acknowledging the start of the hurricane season, science classes were taught how to prepare plans and kits in order to respond safely to such occurrences.

“We have a longstanding partnership with Roger Williams Middle School teachers and students and we were happy to bring in more than 85 volunteers to teach interactive, hands-on workshops to the 750 students in the school,” said Vice President of Public Affairs at Fidelity Investments, John Muggeridge. “We were especially humbled to work side-by-side with Roger Williams students to help them understand disasters, such as last year’s Super Storm Sandy, and allow them to think through and plan for future disaster events."

This is the fourth year of Fidelity’s national partnership with Hands on Network, of the organization Points of Light, a group committed to refreshing learning environments throughout the United States. Serve Rhode Island is a local action center of the Hands on Network.
