World Trade Day slated for May 25 at Bryant

SMITHFIELD – Bryant University will host its 31st annual World Trade Day conference on May 25, with the theme “Global Trends Impacting Local Decisions.”
More than 500 business, political, civic, trade and academic leaders are expected to attend. The conference, presented by Bryant University’s John H. Chafee Center for International Business, will discuss global trends to build, innovate and attract assets for New England.
One of the day’s highlights will be a luncheon panel discussion on how to build companies, transform economies and attract a workforce that can take full advantage of global economic trends. Panelists will be Gov. Gina M. Raimondo, Bryant University President Ronald K. Machtley, Taco Comfort Solutions CEO John Hazen White Jr. and Edesia Founder and CEO Navyn Salem. The discussion will be moderated by PBN Editor Mark S. Murphy.

The rest of the day will be devoted to expert training, networking opportunities and providing resources to help people grow their companies. Breakout sessions containing in-depth information on all facets of international trade will be held. Topics range from technology in manufacturing and global economics to global market opportunities and the challenges of managing a global workforce.

“In today’s dynamic global environment, it is essential for leaders to understand the trends that are unfolding around the world,” Raymond W. Fogarty, director of the Chafee Center for International Business at Bryant University, said in a statement.

The afternoon keynote speaker is Scott Aughenbaugh, deputy director of strategic futures at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, which specializes in global trends analysis and forecasting. He will present “Seven Revolutions: Scanning the Horizon Out to the Year 2035 and Beyond.”
Frank Days will discuss “Five Global Marketing Megatrends to Watch in 2016.” Days has helped several fast-growing technology companies realize the full potential of marketing. He joined Tesora from TwinStrata, where he restructured the marketing team and re-positioned the company prior to its acquisition by EMC.

Keynoter Anika Khan, who will address the topic of “Global Economics: The Shifting Dynamics in World Economies and How They Impact U.S. Companies,” is a director and senior economist with Wells Fargo.
Darrell M. West will present “Technology in Manufacturing: The Impact of Automation, Robotics and Advanced Manufacturing.” An author, he also is vice president of governance studies and director of the Center for Technology Innovation at the Brookings Institution.
Brett Bruen, president of the Global Situation Room, a consulting firm specializing in strategic communications, international public policy and crisis management, will address “International Intelligence: Analyzing Emerging Risks, Trends, and Opportunities.”
