WESTERLY – Washington Trust Company on Thursday announced the appointment of a former Blue Cross & Blue Shield Rhode Island executive to become its next senior vice president of risk management.
William K. Wray, who most recently served as chief operating officer at BCBSRI, will join the bank on June 1, succeeding Brenda H. Senak who currently holds the position but is slated to retire on June 30.
Senak will stay on through the overlap to help Wray with the transition, according to the bank.
“Brenda has done a great job advancing and overseeing risk management operations during her tenure, and we wish her well in retirement,” said Joseph J. MarcAurele, chairman and CEO, in a statement. “Bill is a proven leader with experience and expertise that will help us sustain our strong risk culture as the bank continues to grow.”
Despite coming from the health insurance sector, Wray has a history in banking. Before joining BCBSRI, Wray worked with Citizens Financial Group Inc. for 15 years and was vice chairman and chief information officer before leaving in 2008, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Responsibilities included managing technology and operations along with leadership of enterprise credit and risk administration.
Wray, an East Greenwich resident, is a trustee of Our Lady of Mercy parish and a member of the Diocesan Finance Committee, according to Washington Trust.
