YMCA names Amgen ‘partner’

PROVIDENCE – The YMCA of Greater Providence named Amgen Foundation a Philanthropic Partner for sponsoring the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA programs to help cancer survivors recover from treatment at the YMCA’s annual meeting on May 19 in Warwick.
LIVESTRONG classes are offered free of charge to participants throughout Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts through Amgen Foundation’s sponsorship.
The YMCA also honored the Rhode Island Department of Health as its Y’s Community Partner for the collaborative Healthy Places By Design project in which the YMCA worked with planning departments in three municipalities to help them identify and implement sustainable change to improve residents’ health.
“At the Y, we rely so heavily on our partners and volunteers to increase the impact of our work beyond the four walls of our facilities,” said Michael Fournier, Senior Vice President of Operations for the YMCA of Greater Providence. “Amgen and the Department of Health are two great examples of organizations that have stepped up to help us address critical needs in our communities.”
