Yacht show teams with Boys & Girls Club

NEWPORT– The Boys & Girls Club of Newport County this past week served as the official charitable partner of the 32nd Newport Charter Yacht Show.
The Newport Exhibition Group, a division of Newport Harbor Corp., ran the show from June 23 to 26 at Newport Yachting Center. The show is one of only six charter-focused shows in the world and explored the many avenues of luxury chartering in New England.
The non-profit club is also partnering with the University of Rhode Island’s Graduate School of Oceanography Inner Space Center this fall.
“The Marine Industry is critical to the future of our community and partnerships like these give our youth access and exposure to careers in the marine field as well as opportunities to improve their learning in a fun environment,” said Joseph P. Pratt, CEO and executive director of the nonprofit club.
The nonprofit exhibited in the yacht show’s hospitality tent throughout the week and promoted its fundraising event, the Newport Yacht Rendezvous, scheduled for Aug. 14 at the Newport Shipyard.
The club’s mission is to help people aged 5 to 18 realize their full potential as citizens. The nonprofit provides mentoring, academic programming, athletic activities and meals to its 1,800 members.
