PROVIDENCE – On Tuesday night, youth teams pitched their social enterprise ideas at the Young Social Innovators Pitch and Graduation Ceremony at the MET School’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in hopes of winning $1,000 in seed funding.

Five teams were awarded seed funding at Tuesday night’s event:

  • 4Peace - a team of 4 students from the Community Prep school that plans on hosting an afterschool program that empowers youth to express themselves through various literature media.

  • Hard Rock Productions - disturbed by school cut-backs ending music programs, these two students intend to expose elementary school students to quality music programming, lessons, music theory and history.

  • Luah Beah intends to replace the “ugliness” of abandoned building and graffiti throughout Providence with beautiful mosaics, created as part of a youth alternative art summer program.

  • Skate Wagon - is a portable skate board ramp created by a student at the East Bay MET School. The ramp allows young people to enjoy skateboarding without damaging public or private property.

  • Yamah Dolo intends to create a program addressing bullying that gives victims the confidence by hosting movie nights and guest lectures on the topic of bullying.

In addition to the teams who won seed funding, the following teams participated in the Youth Hasbro Change Accelerator and were awarded fellowships of $500:

  • Austoris - sells T-shirts for urban youth with fashionable designs and QR codes on the sleeve that bring the scanner to a website describing the story behind the design.

  • Big Picture Radio - a radio station to unify the six Big Picture Schools around the world and showcase student accomplishments to the community.

  • Flavio’s Delicious Recipes - a bottled Machupicchu sauce, a Peruvian family recipe that tastes a bit like spicy mayonnaise and compliments most foods and dishes.

  • Plant Your Print - creates custom designs and hand prints canvas backpacks made of 100 percent recycled canvas.

  • The Step - an updated version of the Woonsocket High School website that aims to decrease negativity and increase pride and enthusiasm for the school within its community.

  • Troy Allen Doll Couture/Troy Allen Clothing – creates and sells hand-made, high-fashion doll clothing for any type of doll.
