Zipcar adds ‘Santa’s sleigh’ to Providence, Boston fleets

PROVIDENCE – Zipcar riders can now dash away to destinations in cars that resemble Santa’s sleigh.

The “sleigh” has been added to Zipcar’s fleet in eight U.S. cities, including Providence and Boston, where it will be featured through Dec. 28, according to the company.

The sleigh is a redecorated Ford Focus Hatchback THAT features Christmas music, candy and Santa hats for the “ultimate ziptrip experience (gas, insurance and holiday cheer included),” the company said in a news release.

As with all of Zipcar’s 12,000 vehicles, the sleighs carry a unique name – each is named after one of Santa’s reindeer. In Boston, the car is called Prancer, in Providence, it’s Donner.

“Santa only uses his sleigh once a year, so why should he have to deal with the costs and hassles of year-round ownership?” Kaye Ceille, Zipcar president, said in a statement. “This year, Santa’s getting into the Zipcar spirit and sharing his sleigh, so when he’s not using it, members can. Better yet, Zipcar membership grants access to 50 other makes and models in our global fleet. We’re a cost-effective alternative to vehicle/sleigh ownership that provides the freedom to go where you want on your terms, with a little extra magic this holiday season.”

One dollar per sleigh reservation will be donated to Toys for Tots for less fortunate children this season.
