PROVIDENCE – The trustees of the Rhode Island Zoological Society have hired Jeremy Goodman as the new executive director of the Roger Williams Park Zoo and Society, the zoo announced Thursday.
The society manages the zoo, which is owned by the city of Providence.
Goodman, who has over 15 years of experience as a zoo veterinarian, assistant director and director, including at the Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange, N.J., will begin his role July 1.
“We were impressed by Jeremy’s breadth of experience and his significant accomplishments at the Turtle Back Zoo, where he transformed a struggling zoo into an AZA accredited premier attraction in the state of New Jersey,” John Palumbo, publisher and president of Rhode Island Monthly and a society trustee, said in a statement.
Under his leadership at Turtle Back he oversaw 23 construction projects totaling $45 million including animal exhibits, concessions, attractions, and administration projects.
Palumbo also said in a statement that Goodman’s “enthusiasm for Roger Williams Park Zoo and its reputation as an outstanding mid-sized Zoo add to the excitement among the trustees, staff, and volunteers in welcoming their new director to Providence.”
