A six-month research effort on Rhode Island’s economy delved into the Ocean State’s past as an industrial leader, its struggles during the Great Recession and its need to innovate to move forward again.
The University of Rhode Island is offering a new, more flexible master of oceanography degree aimed at connecting students with career development opportunities in industries such as fisheries, environmental management, shipping, port operations and the military.
Grants totaling $29,678 have been awarded to Portsmouth and the Watch Hill Fire District in Westerly by the state Department of Environmental Management to help fund the removal of abandoned vessels from town waters.
