Executive Director Shannon Reedy of Cumberland founded the nonprofit Chase the Cure Inc. after her youngest son, Chase, was diagnosed with a terminal lysosomal storage disease known as Niemann Pick Type C (also referred to as childhood Alzheimer’s because of its symptoms), shortly after his second birthday in October 2011. The mission of the nonprofit, which became a 501(c)(3) in 2013, is to help move treatments for the disease out of the lab and to patients.
