Rhode Island’s continuing progress in reinventing the charm of its historic mills for 21st-century businesses is blossoming in North Kingstown. The echo of manufacturing productivity, easy access to Route 4, plenty of parking and the Wickford train station a mile away with service to Boston has added up to 80 percent occupancy at Lafayette Mill.
The deadline to submit an idea for the Rhode Island Innovation Fellowship is Friday.
The two fellows who are selected will receive up to $300,000 over three years to develop, test and implement their ideas, which must have the potential to dramatically improve any area of life in Rhode Island.
Middletown-based Vizsafe is drawing on the age of social media to help improve public safety. Founded in 2012, company offers a Twitter-like app of the same name aimed at boosting community engagement, allowing smartphone users to upload photos and videos that could aid public safety efforts. A new social media platform focused – literally with photos and video – on public safety has been developed by Middletown-based Vizsafe Inc. and is being offered to police departments and the general public at no cost.
