To the Editor: As far as I’m concerned, private citizens should be free to pay whatever they want for private coverage (“Is a public option necessary to promote health insurance competition and lower prices?” PBN.com, Sept. 14-18). The same is already true in all nations with public medicine, which is pretty much every other modern country in the world but the United States. I only ask that a public option also be available. It doesn’t have to be spectacular, only available. more
To the editor: As the volunteer state president of AARP-RI, I would like to let your readers know how diligently AARP is working to improve the lives of not only our members age 50 and older, but the lives of all Rhode Islanders. more
To the Editor: After reading the article by Kevin Shalvey (“LEED not the only worthy green building standard,” July 13), I noticed a series of factual errors that I believe require correction. more
To the Editor: I am pleased to say that I am Rhode Island’s first LEED-accredited architect, and am an associate at the Robinson Green Beretta Corp. I am also a member of the board of directors on the U.S. Green Building Council – Rhode Island Chapter. more
To the editor: We want to correct a misperception created in your recent articles (“Green projects flourish in Promenade District,” and “LEED not the only worthy green building standard,” July 13), which suggested that the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA) was founded as a competitor to the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). That is not the case. NESEA is a 10-state organization that has been working in the areas of energy-efficient building and renewable energy for more than 35 years. We have many of the same members as USGBC. more
To the Editor: Those who helped organize the Gaspee Tea Party on June 10 (“Frustration over bailouts sparks anti-tax protests,” April 13) – the boots on the ground – visited almost every town in the state, walking up and down main streets and side streets and handing out flyers. more
To the Editor: Why has the business community dropped out of the political process? If not from the business community, where do we find candidates for public office who have the knowledge and expertise in business, economics, taxation, education and other important issues? more
Kennedy unfairly criticized for combating a medical condition more
To the Editor: Will we ever do away with the crippling stupidity of preferential quotas for college entrance, hiring and awarding contracts? more
To the Editor: Thank you for Marion Davis’ article, (“Survey: Generic drugs not trusted like brand names,” July 6), in which she notes the challenge facing health plans that want to reduce prescription drug costs by steering members to generics when possible. more
To the Editor: In an era in which sound fiscal decisions and responsible government actions are paramount for our economy’s turnaround, why do we have a congressman who is in rehab? more
To the Editor: I commend you for your editorial in support of giving Rhode Island businesses and individuals the choice of a public insurance plan as part of national health care reform (“Public health plan needed for balance,” June 1). more
To the Editor: I was surprised and disappointed to read a recent Providence Business News editorial calling for a public health insurance option (“Public health plan needed for balance,” June 1). While I understand the frustration of individuals and businesses faced with ever-increasing health insurance premiums, I do believe that people should be a bit reluctant in looking to the federal government to swoop in and save the day. more
To the Editor: You recently reported on a Genworth Financial Inc. study showing sharp increases in the cost of long-term care in our state (“R.I. Long-Term Care Costs Rising Fast, Study Finds,” April 30, PBN.com). The article should serve as a valuable wake-up call to Rhode Islanders. more
To the Editor: “If government takes over America’s health care system, where will Canadians go for treatment?” more
To the Editor: Here’s a bold new idea for tax-exempt properties. more
