Fourteen nonprofits received $247,500 worth of grants designed to foster employment opportunities from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation this month.
The grants are intended to help connect the unemployed, underemployed, youth and those with disabilities to training and employment options, said Bill Hatfield, Rhode Island president, Bank of America.
Local 5098 members of the United Nurses and Allied Professionals presented more than $10,000 in items for pediatric patients at Hasbro Children’s Hospital on June 2 to celebrate 20 years of the UNAP Children’s Hospital Fund.
Richard Beretta recently received the Michael Wiggins Leadership Award from Friends Way and the Light of Hope Philanthropy Award from Gateway Healthcare, for his extensive involvement with both organizations. He is a shareholder at Adler Pollock & Sheehan P.C., where he defends both insured and self-insured clients in many different fields. Beretta has been selected as a Rhode Island “Super Lawyer” in 2013, among several other recognitions. When he is not defending a client, Beretta volunteers his time by serving on numerous boards and committees, such as Trinity Repertory Company and St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation.
SOUTH KINGSTOWN – Natalie Tacy of West Warwick, a senior at the University of Rhode Island who has studied French since middle school, has won a fellowship that allows her to study in France. She won a grant from the Beatrice S. Demers Fund established through the Rhode Island Foundation to spend the fall semester there.
