Carol Mansfield, owner and CEO of Stat/Southcoast Emergency Medical Services, spent 2012 expanding her company’s presence with the acquisition of Coastline Ambulance Services and Coastline Educational Services, and launching Stat Emergency Medical Training. Since 1987, her company has grown to include five locations in two states with 100 employees, 15 ambulances, six chair vans and two livery vehicles. Mansfield is a member of the Massachusetts Ambulance Association and an occasional contributor to local media outlets.

Dr. Luciano Sztulman is the author of the recently published book, “Beauty is Power: Dr. Luciano’s Brazilian Beauty Secrets for Staying Young.” Sztulman, who specializes in women’s health and wellness, preventative medicine and advanced cosmetic and reconstructive gynecological surgery, serves as chief of gynecology at Roger Williams Medical Center and as medical director of Skinsational Laser Center and Providence Hair Restoration. Sztulman also has a private practice in Providence. He is a graduate of Faculty of Medicine at Saint Andre University Foundation, Saint Andre, Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Sanne Kure-Jensen, administrator of the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Rhode Island, was recently selected to participate in Farmland Advisors: a Training Program about Farmland Access and Farm Transfers. The two-year program, offered jointly by the American Farmland Trust and Land for Good, aims to develop effective resources for farmers and farmland owners seeking land access and farm transfers through webinars, readings, conference calls and a regional conference. She holds an MBA from Rivier College and has pursued environment-related graduate courses at the University of Rhode Island.

Jeffrey A. Butler, broker-owner of Butler Realty Group, is the recipient of the 2012 National Commercial Award from the National Association of Realtors. The award, which honors outstanding achievement in the commercial realty industry, recognized Butler for his “deep contribution to the industry, which displays the strength of [the association’s] commercial members.” Butler, a graduate of Tollgate High School, serves as treasurer of both the Rhode Island Commercial and Appraisal Board of Realtors and the Rhode Island Statewide MLS. He is active with several other professional associations and has been a member of the Realtors association since 1977.

Jamie Lohr, a co-owner of Guardian Fuel in Westerly, was recently named 2012 marketer of the year by the Independent Connecticut Petroleum Association. The award recognizes her involvement with industry-related issues and her ability to serve as an active and articulate marketer, unafraid to address legislators. Lohr is a resident of Stonington, Conn., a lifelong environmentalist and an advocate for the use of biofuels.

Ken Ayars, chief of the R.I. Department of Environmental Management’s Division of Agriculture, was recently honored with the Rhode Island Nursery and Landscape Association’s Award of Merit. The award was presented during the organization’s annual trade show and seminar held on Jan. 17 at the University of Rhode Island’s Center for Biotechnology and Life Sciences. Ayars, who has worked for DEM’s Division of Agriculture since 1987, has collaborated with RINLA on policy issues and solutions for green-related industry issues and needs. He was also issued a citation from the Rhode Island House of Representatives in recognition of the RINLA merit award, and for providing outstanding service to the state’s horticultural, agricultural and landscape communities. Ayars holds bachelor’s degrees in zoology, agriculture and resource technology, in addition to a master’s degree in plant sciences from the University of Rhode Island.

Anny Whetzel, a Cranston resident, was recently named a Rhode Island Community Hero by Cox Communications in honor of her volunteer efforts. Whetzel is a production support tech at Cox, where she has worked for more than 13 years. During the past year, she has spent her Saturday afternoons at Knight Memorial Library, a branch of the Providence Community Library, teaching adults English as a Second Language. In recognition of Whetzel’s efforts, Cox will award the library a $3,000 Cox Charities Grant to further support its work in the community.

Andrea Marcotte, vice president, chief medical officer and chief operating officer of WellOne Primary Medical and Dental Care, was recently named a Rural Health Champion by the R.I. Department of Health. Marcotte was recognized for her efforts to improve the supply, distribution, diversity and quality of the state’s health workforce, and to increase access to health care in medically underserved areas. She has worked for WellOne since 1997 and is the immediate past board president of the Northern Rhode Island Area Health Education Center. Marcotte is a family nurse practitioner and a gerontological nurse practitioner. She holds undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate degrees from Rhode Island College, Simmons College and George Washington University.

Dr. Dwight Rouse, a specialist in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island and a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, was recently selected to join the editorial team of Obstetrics & Gynecology. Also known as “The Green Journal,” Obstetrics and Gynecology has more than 46,000 subscribers worldwide. Rouse’s research and clinical work are focused on clinical obstetrics, particularly labor management. He holds a medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, in addition to a master’s degree in public health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
