PROVIDENCE and ROME – GTECH Corp., a subsidiary of Italy-based Lottomatica S.p.A., has been named to provide the New Jersey Lottery with equipment and support for a new instant lottery system under a seven-year deal valued by the state at about $105 million.
GTECH was selected via a competitive process by the N.J. Division of Purchase and Property. The contract – expected to be finalized next month – will allow for up to three one-year extensions.
“New Jersey is one of the top-performing lotteries in the world, and we are pleased to be able to continue the partnership we began with them nearly 25 years ago,” Jaymin B. Patel, GTECH’s president and CEO, said in a statement. The company has been providing online lottery technology and services to New Jersey since 1984.
The new project is to include the conversion of the New Jersey Lottery’s central system to GTECH’s Enterprise Series; about 6,200 new online terminals; an Internet Protocol (IP) communications network; new, electronic point-of-service (POS) messaging devices; a variety of self-service lottery products, including 4,100 Ticket-Scan machines and 1,500 instant-ticket vending machines; and ongoing telemarketing, warehousing and distribution services, the company said.
“All of this combined gives players better access to the games they like to play; [creates] a more-efficient lottery environment for retailers; and maximizes revenue for education for a lottery that has done an outstanding job with online-lottery and [instant-ticket] portfolio growth, making them one of the most profitable lotteries in the world,” Patel said.
Meanwhile, GTECH will continue to provide the lottery with ongoing services including retailer training; field services; and installation and maintenance of the central system, terminals and communications network.
The New Jersey Lottery ranks eighth in the world in terms of total sales, recording more than $2.5 billion in revenue in its most recent fiscal year, the company said. Since its inception, the lottery has contributed more than $16.4 billion to state education and institutions in New Jersey.
GTECH Corp. – a provider of lottery technology and services to the R.I. Lottery since 1978 – is a wholly owned subsidiary of Italy-based Lottomatica S.p.A.
