PBN Q&A
Tracey named associate at DS&S
Kim Tracey

Kimberly Tracey has been named associate at the firm Duffy Sweeney & Scott. Prior to joining the firm, Tracey served as a judicial law clerk to R.I. Superior Court Justice Michael A. Silverstein. Tracey has a B.A. in political science and Asian studies from the University of Vermont and a J.D. from Roger Williams University School of Law, where she served as managing editor of the RWU Law Review.

PBN: What are you looking forward to in your new position?

TRACEY: Duffy Sweeney & Scott offers me a diverse array of litigation work in a challenging and intellectual environment. I am thrilled to be a part of the firm’s many complex business-litigation matters and to work with litigators who have earned a national reputation based on their skill both in and out of the courtroom.

PBN: What are your new responsibilities?

TRACEY: As an associate, I work with all the litigation partners on the matters at hand to respond to the needs of our clients. Those tasks may range from writing and research to drafting and filing court documents or any other tasks that need to be completed. No two litigation matters are exactly alike, so I believe it is important to be able to jump into each assignment that comes my way.

PBN: Will your experience as a judicial law clerk help you make decisions in areas you want to focus on in your practice?

TRACEY: Serving as a judicial law clerk for Silverstein certainly provided an invaluable experience and helped prepare me for litigation practice. Although I considered the business-law side of practice before working for Silverstein, clerking for the [Superior Court’s] Business Calendar only re-emphasized my desire to pursue litigation with this concentration.

PBN: Do you see your experience with Asian studies, including your tenure at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, as an asset to your experience?

TRACEY: My time at the University of International Business and Economics was spent training in a hands-on classroom with a focus on honing skills necessary in litigation, namely written and oral arguments. Although I am not focused on Asian issues at Duffy Sweeney & Scott at this time, I am able to use the skills I have acquired in an international setting and apply them to the issues with which I am presented. •
