RHODE ISLAND & MASSACHUSETTS NEWS BRIEFS
Donation to bolster URI engineering program

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – A $1 million anonymous gift to the University of Rhode Island will help provide scholarship assistance to the school’s engineering students.

The cash gift, given by two university alums to the school’s ongoing “Making a Difference” capital campaign, will bolster the existing Thomas J. Kim Endowed Engineering Scholarship Fund, established in 1993. The donation was made in honor of Kim, a former dean of the College of Engineering and recently retired professor of mechanical engineering at URI.

URI’s Making a Difference campaign seeks $100 million to recruit and retain faculty, enhance the student-centered campus experience, provide undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships and fund academic and research initiatives. •
