GAIA
GAIA Vaccine Foundation’s mission is to promote the development of an HIV vaccine to be distributed on a not-for-profit basis in the developing world. Since 2005 GAIA has been providing funds to support the treatment of HIV+ women and their families. The foundation activities have centered on four themes: Education, Prevention, Access to care and Vaccines. In 2008 our Foundation completed the construction of a village-based clinic in Sikoro a slum located near Bamako, Mali – West Africa. The clinic has recently received the authorization from the Malian government to distribute HIV/AIDS medication for free, putting HIV treatment at the reach of villager’s hand.
On December 4th 2009, GAIA Vaccine Foundation is organizing its annual Fundraiser.
ALL of the funds donated at our annual fundraiser go to our mission.
Nationally recognized individuals from the Clinton HIV/AIDS initiative (CHAI) will be honored for their important work and receive the “Hope is a Vaccine” award that night.
This year the GAIA "Hope is a Vaccine Award 2009" goes to two visionary architects of global foundations for their ability to identify public-private partnerships as one means of solving some of the world's greatest health problems - access to HIV care and the development of new TB vaccines.
HIV/AIDS Care Visionary Architect - Ira Magaziner, Chief Architect, Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative (awards will also be going to Ed Wood, Advisor to the Chairman, and Anne Sliney, R.N., for their work in the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative)
and
TB Vaccine and Therapy Foundation Visionary Architect - Carol Nacy Ph.D., CEO Sequella Inc. Founder Sequella Foundation (now Aeras Global TB Vaccine Foundation).
